My Mom Kicked Me Out of My Own Lake House—So I Sold It While My Family Was Still Inside

PART 3

Then I remembered my mother standing in my doorway.

I don’t think you should stay tonight.

I replied with one sentence.

Is your client still interested?

The answer arrived fourteen minutes later.

Yes. Very interested. Could we meet tomorrow?

I closed the laptop and slept better than I had in months.

Sunday Morning

At nine o’clock, Ethan met me at a coffee shop overlooking the lake.

He was probably in his early forties, calm and professional, the kind of realtor who listened more than he talked.

“I wasn’t expecting to hear from you,” he admitted.

“I wasn’t expecting my family to evict me from my own house.”

His eyebrows lifted, but he didn’t ask for gossip.

Instead he slid a folder across the table.

“The buyers are the Harrises. Recently retired. They’ve been searching for a quiet lake home for almost two years.”

He showed me photographs.

A smiling couple in their sixties.

No children living at home.

No interest in turning it into a vacation rental.

They simply wanted a peaceful place to fish, garden, and grow old together.
