She Sent Me a Photo of My Husband With His Secretary in Honolulu to Break My Heart—So I Printed 100 Copies and Exposed Their Biggest Secret to the Entire Company!

PART 3

I stared at the message for several seconds.

Then I placed the phone back on the nightstand.

I didn’t call him.

I didn’t even respond.

Instead, I walked toward the window and pulled the curtains aside. The morning sun was shining over the city, and the streets below were already crowded with people heading to work.

I was sitting in a hotel near the airport because I had booked a flight the previous evening. I hadn’t decided exactly where I wanted to go, but I knew one thing.

I needed distance.

Not because I was afraid of Marcus.

Not because I wanted to hide from Chloe.

But because I needed to think clearly before making the next decision of my life.

For five years, I had been Marcus Thorne’s wife.

For seven years, I had been an employee at the company where he worked.

I had spent so much time protecting our marriage and maintaining my professional reputation that I had almost forgotten what it felt like to protect myself.

And now, after one photograph, everything had changed.

I picked up my phone again and opened the company group chat.

There were already hundreds of messages.

Some employees were asking whether the photograph was real. Others were discussing how it had appeared in so many places overnight.

One person had written:

“Is that really Director Thorne with Chloe Davis?”

Another replied:

“I thought he was married to Olivia from the finance department.”

Then someone else wrote:

“She has been working here for seven years. I can’t believe this is happening.”

I continued scrolling.

Then I saw a message that made me pause.

It came from Daniel Reed, the company’s senior human resources manager.

“Everyone, please stop circulating personal photographs and return your attention to work. Management will address any workplace concerns through the appropriate channels.”

I almost laughed.

Management would address it.

Of course they would.

Marcus was the Director of Operations. He had spent years building relationships with senior executives, department heads, and important clients.

He was not someone the company could easily ignore.

But there was something Daniel didn’t know.

I wasn’t simply an employee who had suddenly discovered her husband was having an affair.

I had spent seven years working in the company’s financial administration department.

I knew how the company operated.

I knew its internal reporting procedures.

And I knew that certain things happening behind closed doors were much more complicated than most employees realized.

I closed the group chat and ordered breakfast.

For the first time in months, I ate without checking whether Marcus had called.

But I wasn’t prepared for what happened next.

At 7:32 a.m., my phone rang again.

This time, the caller was my mother-in-law, Margaret Thorne.

I hesitated before answering.

“Hello, Margaret.”

Her voice immediately came through the speaker.

“Olivia! What is going on? Marcus just called me, and he sounds absolutely furious!”

I took a slow breath.

“Good morning, Margaret.”

“Don’t say good morning to me! I want to know why you put those photographs all over his office!”

I looked out the window.

“Perhaps you should ask your son why he was embracing his secretary in Honolulu.”

There was a brief silence.

Then Margaret lowered her voice.

“Listen to me carefully. Whatever happened between Marcus and that young woman, you should have handled it privately.”

I almost couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

Privately?

Her son had gone on a romantic vacation with another woman, allowed that woman to send his wife a humiliating photograph, and somehow I was the one being criticized.

“Margaret, did you know about Chloe?”

Another silence.

A longer one this time.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Then perhaps you should ask Marcus.”

“Olivia, marriage is not always easy. Men sometimes make mistakes. If you truly love your husband, you should not destroy his career over one photograph.”

I closed my eyes.

There it was.

The same old expectation.

I was supposed to forgive.

I was supposed to remain quiet.

I was supposed to protect Marcus from the consequences of his own decisions.

“Margaret,” I said calmly, “I spent five years protecting my marriage. I think I’ve done enough.”

Before she could answer, I ended the call.

I didn’t feel victorious.

I felt exhausted.

But something inside me had finally stopped making excuses for other people’s behavior.

At 8:05 a.m., Marcus arrived at the company.

According to the messages I later received, he had entered the seventeenth floor through the main elevator, wearing a dark suit and carrying his usual leather briefcase.

He apparently expected to walk into his office as he had done every other morning.

Instead, he found the building already buzzing with rumors.

The first photograph he encountered was attached to the bulletin board near the elevator.

He stopped.

His eyes moved across the image.

Then he noticed another copy beside the printer.

Another near the breakroom.

Another outside the conference room.

And another beside the door to his office.

For several seconds, he simply stood there.

Nobody said anything.

The employees who had gathered nearby suddenly became extremely interested in their computers.

Marcus pulled the photograph from the bulletin board.

His face turned red.

“Who did this?”

Nobody answered.

He turned toward the nearest employee.

“Daniel! Where is Daniel?”

Daniel Reed appeared from the hallway.

“Good morning, Marcus.”

“Don’t good-morning me! Who authorized this?”

Daniel glanced at the photograph.

Then he looked back at Marcus.

“I believe you should speak with Human Resources.”

“These pictures are private!”

Daniel didn’t respond immediately.

Instead, he carefully chose his words.

“Marcus, the photograph appears to show you with an employee who reports directly to your office. Given your position, there may be a workplace conflict that requires review.”

Marcus tightened his grip on the paper.

“This is a personal matter between my wife and me.”

Daniel nodded.

“Then you should understand why we’re concerned about the professional implications.”

Marcus looked around.

People were watching.

Some pretended to be working, but nobody could ignore what was happening.

He walked quickly toward his office.

And that was when he saw the photograph lying directly on Chloe’s keyboard.

Chloe arrived at 8:19 a.m.

She entered the seventeenth floor wearing a beautiful cream-colored blouse, carrying a designer handbag, and holding a coffee cup.

She was smiling.

That smile disappeared almost immediately.

The first photograph she saw was near the elevator.

She stopped so suddenly that the employee walking behind her nearly bumped into her.

She stared at the picture.

Then she looked toward the hallway.

Another photograph.

Another.

Her face changed.

She hurried toward her desk, hoping that perhaps the entire situation was some kind of misunderstanding.

But when she reached her workstation, she found the photograph placed directly on her keyboard.

Her own smiling face stared back at her.

Beside her was Marcus.

The same man whose wife had been working on the same floor for seven years.

Chloe dropped her handbag onto the chair.

“What is this?”

Nobody answered.

She picked up the photograph and turned toward the nearest group of employees.

“Who put this here?”

A woman from the accounting department quietly replied.

“I don’t know. It was already here when we arrived.”

Chloe’s breathing became faster.

“Where is Olivia?”

Nobody answered.

Then she looked toward Marcus’s office.

The door was closed.

She hurried inside.

“What are you going to do about this?”

Marcus was standing beside his desk, holding his phone.

He looked furious.

“Do you think I know?”

“You told me she wouldn’t make a scene!”

Marcus turned toward her.

“Keep your voice down!”

Chloe looked at him in disbelief.

“Why should I? Everyone already knows!”

He walked toward the door and closed it.

“Listen to me. We need to control this situation before it gets worse.”

Chloe folded her arms.

“Control it? Marcus, my face is hanging on every wall!”

“Then stop shouting!”

For the first time, Chloe seemed to realize that the man she had been embracing in Honolulu was not going to stand beside her when things became uncomfortable.

He was worried about himself.

His career.

His reputation.

His position.

Not her.

She lowered her voice.

“You told me Olivia would accept the divorce once she understood that our marriage was over.”

Marcus rubbed his forehead.

“That’s not what I said.”

“Yes, it is!”

“Chloe, not now.”

She stared at him.

Then she said something that would change the entire direction of their relationship.

“You promised me we would be together openly after this trip.”

Marcus didn’t answer.

“You promised me I wouldn’t have to hide anymore.”

He looked toward the window.

“Things are complicated.”

Chloe let out a bitter laugh.

“Of course they are. Everything is complicated when you have to explain yourself.”

Before Marcus could respond, someone knocked on the door.

It was Daniel Reed.

“Marcus, the CEO wants to see you. Immediately.”

Marcus closed his eyes.

For the first time that morning, he looked genuinely frightened.

At 9:00 a.m., I received an unexpected call.

It was from Daniel Reed.

I almost didn’t answer.

But something told me I should.

“Olivia, it’s Daniel.”

“Good morning.”

“I hope you’re doing okay.”

“Thank you. I’m fine.”

He paused.

“I need to ask you something. Did you personally place those photographs around the seventeenth floor?”

I could have lied.

I could have pretended that I knew nothing about it.

But I didn’t see any reason to.

“Yes. I did.”

Daniel sighed.

“Olivia, I understand that you’re upset, and I’m not calling to judge your personal situation. However, the company is concerned about the circumstances surrounding the photograph.”

“I understand.”

“Would you be willing to attend a meeting with Human Resources and the CEO?”

I sat down on the edge of the bed.

“Is Marcus attending?”

“Yes.”

“Then I would like to know whether this meeting concerns my personal marriage or a workplace investigation.”

There was a short silence.

“Both, potentially.”

I looked down at my hands.

“Then I’ll attend, provided I receive a formal meeting invitation explaining the purpose.”

Daniel sounded relieved.

“Of course. I’ll arrange that.”

Before ending the call, he added something unexpected.

“Olivia, there’s another matter I think you should know.”

“What is it?”

“The CEO has asked us to review several complaints concerning Marcus’s department. Your name appeared in connection with one of those matters.”

My heart skipped.

“What complaints?”

“I can’t discuss the details over the phone.”

“Does it have anything to do with the finance department?”

Another pause.

“Possibly.”

I leaned back.

For several seconds, I couldn’t speak.

Because suddenly, I remembered something.

Three months earlier, I had noticed several unusual payments appearing in the company’s operational expense reports.

They were relatively small transactions individually, but together they represented a considerable amount of money.

Whenever I requested supporting documents, Marcus had told me they were related to temporary operational expenses.

I had asked for clarification twice.

Both times, he had instructed me to leave the matter alone.

I remembered the way he had looked at me during our last conversation about those transactions.

“Olivia, you’re making this unnecessarily complicated. Just process the reports.”

I had refused to approve certain entries until the documentation was complete.

He had become angry.

At the time, I thought he was simply under pressure.

Now, I wondered whether something much more serious had been happening.

“Daniel,” I said carefully, “I still have copies of some of those reports.”

His voice changed.

“Do you?”

“Yes.”

“Please don’t alter or delete anything. If the documents are relevant, the company will want to review them through the appropriate process.”

I looked at my laptop.

There was a folder containing archived reports, email correspondence, and supporting documents from the previous months.

I had kept them because it was part of my normal professional practice.

I had no idea that one day they might become important for reasons I couldn’t have imagined.

“Understood,” I replied.

After ending the call, I sat quietly for a long time.

The photograph had exposed Marcus’s affair.

But perhaps the affair wasn’t the only secret he had been keeping.

At 10:30 a.m., Marcus finally called me again.

This time, I answered.

“Olivia, where are you?”

“Somewhere I can think.”

“Stop playing games. We need to talk.”

I almost smiled.

He was still speaking to me as though he had the right to give me instructions.

“What do you want to talk about, Marcus?”

“About what you did last night!”

“What exactly did I do?”

“You humiliated me in front of the entire company!”

I looked toward the window.

“Did you feel humiliated when you were holding Chloe in Honolulu?”

He became silent.

“That’s different.”

“How?”

“Olivia, you don’t understand the situation.”

“Then explain it.”

He sighed impatiently.

“It was a business trip. Chloe came along because she was helping coordinate several meetings. The photograph was taken during a private dinner.”

“A private dinner on a beach with her arms wrapped around you?”

“You’re twisting everything.”

I slowly shook my head.

“Marcus, I saw the message she sent me.”

He didn’t answer.

“She told me you said you wanted to be with her.”
