My Daughter Said Fish Were Biting Her Inside… Then the

Officer Lawson looked between us. “Do you know why she would take the magnets?” I stared at the frozen image.

The woman who had held my daughter. The woman who called Chloe her “little angel.” The woman who had spent years telling Ethan that I wasn’t good enough for him.

“I don’t know.” Then something else appeared on the screen. A few seconds after Eleanor left with the sculpture.

Another person entered the dining room. My heart dropped again. Because this time… I recognized the person immediately.

It was Ethan. He walked into the dining room. He looked around.

Then he picked up his phone. He wasn’t surprised. He wasn’t confused.

He acted like he knew something had happened. Officer Lawson pressed play. Ethan stood there for almost three minutes.

Then he called someone. The audio was faint, but the camera had a microphone. Officer Lawson increased the volume.

Ethan’s voice filled the hospital waiting room. “Mom… are you sure?” A pause.

Then Ethan continued. “She can’t know.” My hands became cold.

Officer Lawson looked at me. Ethan looked terrified. The recording continued.

“After tonight, Natalie won’t have any choice. She’ll leave. And Chloe will stay with us.”

My entire body froze. I looked at my husband. The man I married.

The father of my child. “What did you just say?” Ethan didn’t answer.

His silence was the answer. Officer Lawson stopped the recording. “Mr.

Carter, I need you to explain what we just heard.” Ethan opened his mouth. Nothing came out.

Then suddenly, the operating room doors opened. A doctor walked out. Everyone turned.

I ran toward her. “Doctor?” She removed her mask.
