My Ex-Husband Came Back Begging for Another Chance—But the Secret Behind My House Changed Everything

Marisol whispered:

“What?”

Daniel’s face hardened.

“Who do you owe?”

Robert looked at the floor.

“Private lenders.”

Daniel immediately understood.

“Loan sharks?”

Robert didn’t answer.

“Dad.”

“I said private lenders.”

“That wasn’t my question.”

Robert closed his eyes.

“Yes.”

My heart began beating faster.

I had spent two years rebuilding my life.

My finances.

My credit.

My home.

My peace.

And suddenly, the man who had destroyed our marriage had walked back into my living room carrying a debt of nearly four hundred thousand dollars.

But that wasn’t the worst part.

Because I had one question.

“How does this involve me?”

Robert looked up.

And his next words changed everything.

“They already know where you live.”

Nobody moved.

I felt the room become smaller.

“What?”

Robert’s voice cracked.

“They know about this house.”

Daniel immediately moved toward the front window.

“Who are they?”

“I don’t know exactly.”

“You don’t know who is threatening you?”

“They work through other people.”

Daniel turned around.

“Why would they come after Mom?”

Robert looked at me.

“Because this house isn’t just a house.”

My heart stopped for half a second.

“What are you talking about?”

Robert’s face tightened.

“This property was used as collateral.”

I stared at him.

“For what?”

He didn’t answer.

“Robert.”

“For my debt.”

I felt my fingers go numb.

“You couldn’t have used this house as collateral.”

“I did.”

“How?”

“The paperwork.”

“What paperwork?”

He looked down.

Then whispered:

“Your signature.”

My entire body went cold.

“My signature?”

Robert nodded.

“I forged it.”

Nobody spoke.

Not even Lucas.

I heard the refrigerator humming.

The clock ticking.

The faint sound of a car passing outside.

Everything ordinary.

Everything peaceful.

And yet my life had just shifted beneath my feet.

Daniel’s face turned pale.

“You forged Mom’s signature on a loan?”

Robert nodded.

“When?”

“Last year.”

I looked at him.

“Last year?”

“Yes.”

I laughed once.

It wasn’t a happy laugh.

It was disbelief.

“You left two years ago.”

“I know.”

“You divorced me.”

“Yes.”

“You had no legal right to use my property.”

“I know.”

“And you forged my signature.”

“Yes.”

I took one step backward.

“Then why haven’t they taken the house?”

Robert looked at me.

“Because they don’t have the original documents.”

Daniel’s eyes narrowed.
