Peter Cullen, the legendary voice actor best known for bringing Optimus Prime to life in the Transformers franchise, has died at 85.
Cullen died Wednesday at his Los Angeles home surrounded by family. His agent, Kevin Motley, confirmed the news, while a cause of death was not immediately announced.
For generations of fans, Cullen’s voice became inseparable from Optimus Prime. He gave the Autobot leader a powerful yet compassionate presence, making him feel less like a machine and more like a wise, courageous protector.
Optimus Prime Became His Defining Role
Cullen first voiced Optimus Prime in the original Transformers animated series, which premiered in 1984.
