A Hospital Employee Drove a New Mom Home After Her Husband Left Her in the Parking Lot – But Two Days Later, Her Boss Said, ‘It’s All Because You Helped That Woman!’

We eventually settled the matter without selling the property, but Nathan never forgave me.

He believed I’d deprived him of money he deserved.

Over time, we stopped speaking entirely.

Then Mom mentioned something unexpected.

“I’ve invited Nathan and Emily for dinner on Saturday.”

I looked at her.

“Both of them?”

“Yes. And the twins. I thought it might be nice to bring everyone together.”

“Does Nathan know I still visit you?”

“He knows. He just refuses to talk about you.”

I thought for a moment.

Then Mom hesitated.

“Daniel, there’s something else you should know about Nathan.”

I listened as she explained something that had been happening ever since Emily became pregnant.

By the time she finished, I could hardly believe what I was hearing.

“How long has this been going on?”

“Months.”

“And Emily doesn’t know?”

“I don’t think so.”

I rubbed my forehead.

“Mom, please don’t mention our conversation to Nathan yet.”

“Why?”

“Because I want everyone to have a chance to speak honestly before he prepares another explanation.”

That evening, I called Sophie.

We discussed what Emily needed and how we could support her without putting additional pressure on her.

By the following morning, arrangements were in place.

Saturday arrived.

I went to Mom’s house early.

She’d prepared roast chicken, potatoes, and enough vegetables to feed a small army.

“Daniel,” she warned, “please don’t argue with your brother.”

“I won’t start a fight.”

“Nathan knows how to provoke you.”

“I know. But shouting never solved anything in our family.”

The doorbell rang.

Nathan entered carrying flowers.

“Mom, you didn’t have to cook so much.”

Then he saw me.

His smile disappeared.

“What are you doing here?”

“Visiting our mother,” I replied.

“I’m not staying if he’s here.”

Mom folded her arms.

“This is my home, Nathan. You’re both my sons.”

He reluctantly stayed.

Twenty minutes later, Emily arrived with Sophie and the twins.

When she saw me, she stopped.

“Daniel?”

“Hello again, Emily.”

Nathan looked between us.

His expression darkened.

Dinner began awkwardly.

Nathan complained about how exhausting life with twins had become.

“Nobody understands how little sleep I get,” he announced.

Emily looked down.

“I haven’t slept much either.”

“I work hard,” Nathan replied.

Sophie raised an eyebrow.

“So does Emily.”

Nathan ignored her.

Then Mom placed her fork on the table.

“Nathan, there’s something I’d like to clear up.”

He looked at her.

“You told me you took Emily to Sophie’s house after the hospital.”

“I did.”

“Then why did Daniel find her stranded outside with the babies?”

Nathan shifted uncomfortably.

“We argued. She refused to get into the car.”

Emily stared at him.

“You drove away with my phone and the diaper bag.”

“I knew Sophie would help you.”

“Her car was broken,” Emily replied. “You knew that.”

Nathan shrugged.

“I needed some time to calm down.”

Mom looked disappointed.

“Then why did you tell me you’d bought supplies for the babies?”

“I did buy things!”

I placed the pharmacy receipt on the table.

“That’s strange, because I bought everything Emily needed that night.”

Nathan glared at me.

“You’ve hated me for ten years. You’re twisting this.”

“I didn’t write your complaint, Nathan.”

He froze.

I placed a copy beside his plate.

Emily picked it up.

Her eyes widened as she read.

“You filed a complaint against Daniel? He helped me and our babies!”

“He interfered in our marriage!”

“He drove us somewhere safe,” she replied.

Mom shook her head.

“Nathan, why would you try to damage your brother’s career?”

He had no answer.
