My Son’s New Wife Loudly Told My Grandkids They Were ‘Ruining the Aesthetic’ of Her House – Then Karma Stepped In

“Grandma!” Theo shouted, wrapping himself around my legs.

Ivy hugged me too, quietly, as she seemed to do everything these days.

Chloe immediately noticed the Lego tub.

“Those again?”

Theo tightened his grip. “Mom bought them for us.”

Something passed across Chloe’s expression.

She started to speak, reconsidered, then walked into the kitchen.

I crouched beside the children. “You two want to build something with me before the guests come?”

Theo was already opening the lid.

My eyes returned to the white couch.

I needed to warn Nolan before the party became too crowded.

I saw him outside through the back door and started toward him.

“Grandma, look!”

Theo caught my hand and tugged me back toward the rug, where Ivy had begun sorting through the Legos.

I glanced again at the couch.

Five minutes, I decided. Then I’d find Nolan.

—

Soon the house was crowded with conversation while the smell of grilled meat drifted in from the yard.

Nolan stood outside with his friends, grilling and laughing.

Five minutes stretched into ten because someone always seemed to be talking to him. I remained with Ivy and Theo while waiting for a chance to catch him alone.

“Look, Grandma.” Theo raised a Lego ship. “It saves people from storms.”

“And I made the launchpad,” Ivy said, pointing toward a green plate surrounded by tiny red boosters.

“Your mom would have loved it.”

Ivy smiled down at her hands.

Then Chloe entered with two friends and stopped when she noticed the floor.

“Oh my God,” she muttered loudly enough for nearby guests to hear. “I literally just vacuumed this rug.”
